How this works
The arithmetic, in the open
The baseline is 5 grams of silica gel per cubic foot of enclosed air — approximately 170 grams per cubic metre. That is the figure we publish and the one this tool starts from.
It is then adjusted by four multipliers:
| Sealed barrier bag | × 1.0 |
|---|---|
| Lined carton or crate | × 1.4 |
| Plain corrugated, taped | × 2.2 |
| 1 – 3 months | × 1.25 |
| 3 – 6 months | × 1.5 |
| Over 6 months | × 1.8 |
| Hygroscopic cargo | × 1.6 |
Then verify it once
Put a humidity indicator card into a sample of packs on the first shipment. What comes back tells you whether you are comfortably inside your threshold or wasting money. It costs almost nothing and almost nobody does it.

Send us the product, the enclosure, the route and the storage period. You will get a desiccant type, a dose and a format back — not just a price list.
