The context
Defence storage is measured in years and judged on one criterion: does it work when it is taken out of the box. Equipment is held through monsoon and desert cycles without servicing, which makes the desiccant specification a readiness question rather than a packaging one.
Clay desiccant is widely specified in defence packaging, and it performs better than silica gel at low temperature. Combined with indicator cards inside the barrier, the pack can be verified without breaking the seal on every unit.
Moisture risks
Each of these has its own threshold and its own failure signature. Knowing which one you are fighting is what sets the target humidity.
