Food & Beverage Packaging

Food-contact desiccants and oxygen scavengers for dry commodities and agri export.

The problem

What actually goes wrong

Food spoils through two separate routes. Water causes caking, softening and mould. Oxygen causes rancidity, colour loss and vitamin degradation. A desiccant only addresses the first, which is why dry goods still go off inside a well-sealed pack.

The answer

Treat them separately. Food-grade desiccant with capacity matched to the commodity's own moisture, plus an oxygen absorber sized to the pack headspace where oxidation is the spoilage route.

The method

How to get this right

A repeatable sequence, in the order that matters. Skipping the first step is the usual reason the rest disappoints.

Our recommendation: SGS-certified food grade desiccant in the pack, oxygen absorbers where fats are present, and food-grade container dry desiccants for the shipment.
  1. Identify the spoilage route

Caking and mould point to water; rancidity and colour loss point to oxygen.

  2. Check the commodity's moisture

Coir, dry coconut, spices and dried fruit release significant moisture in transit.

  3. Select food-grade material

Only SGS-certified food grade for anything that may contact the product.

  4. Size both components

Desiccant to commodity moisture and pack volume; oxygen absorber to headspace.

  5. Protect the container too

For agri export, food-grade container desiccant handles the voyage that sachets cannot.
