Bulk Silica Gel
Adsorbs up to 40% of its own weight in moisture
Silica gel is manufactured from synthetic sodium silicate and is, despite the name, a hard granular solid rather than a gel. It works by physical adsorption: water vapour is drawn into a vast internal network of pores and held there, so the material stays visibly and functionally dry even when close to saturation. It does not swell, dissolve or change shape as it loads, which is why it can sit directly alongside a finished product without risk.
